About Redesign
Karen Starr Redesign is all about:
- Infusing life and balance into every space. Choosing colors, furnishings, accessories, and a layout that you truly love and that will inspire you daily.
- Saving resources. By starting with repurposing and repositioning the things you already own, we can be kind to the environment, and save your budget for the bigger ticket items you may need to purchase new.
- Stellar, smart design on any budget: I can transform one corner of your home, or your entire home.
- Getting to know you, so I can make your life easier and more beautiful.
I’m an eco-sensitive interior designer and I am passionate about saving resources…so much so that I built my business model around the win-win that occurs whenever I can help someone save a resource, including their money. I approach all projects by first asking: “What already exists that can fill the needs of the people that use this space?”
In addition to using your existing pieces for the earth-friendly aspect, one of my favorite things about my work is learning the stories behind the pieces that are near and dear to your heart. This is yet another reason why I love to incorporate under-utilized items from around the house, or things tucked away in the attic that you thought (or were told by another designer) “didn’t go with the design”. I love to encourage the reconnection with family pieces, old artwork or photographs. They are precious and meaningful for a reason, so let’s honor them.
After we maximize what you have, we’ll do a mix of sourcing the rest locally, custom-making and purchasing new through my network of design sources. And I’ll keep an eye on the eco-footprint of it all along the way…
All told, I believe that great design must work for you and your lifestyle…where every detail and piece of the design plays well with the next and makes you love the spaces you inhabit. It has to be lovely and useful and make you happy, right? Right!

A Redesign Tale…
Once upon a time, many moons ago, there were 12 very special glass blocks that were made with love and lived their happy little decorative life in a happy old building somewhere.
Just a few moons ago, these 12 little beauties found themselves labeled useless and were tossed into a garbage dumpster, awaiting their landfill fate.
Luckily for them, a fine lad with a great design eye and a soft spot for reclamation saw this happening and rescued the glass beauties from said fate.
A short time later, a fair maiden came to visit the fine lad’s studio one day, saw the glass beauties and said, “Wow, where did those come from? They are awesome!” The lad told her the story, and they both shook their heads in awe at the near tragedy.
The lad then said to the maiden, “I will give these to you because you love them so, as long as you find a new purpose for them, or promise to pass them along to another if you can’t.”
The maiden did a jig for joy (as she so often does), happily accepted the gift and took the promise to heart.
To be continued…
The photograph above shows two of the glass blocks. They will be for sale or be available to be worked into a custom design at Hazel Tree Interiors, the new studio and gallery space we’re opening in July 201o.
